Christmas and Advent

Join us at St. John's throughout the Advent and Christmas seasons as we prepare for and celebrate the birth of Christ.

We have various services and events to bring our community together for the season.

Christmas Eve

We celebrate Christmas Eve with holiday music and two worship service options:

  • Christmas Eve Children and Family Service >>
This service for children and families is designed to last less than one hour. All people, including children and families, are encouraged to join us for worship on Christmas Eve.
  • Christmas Eve Holiday Music >>
A concert featuring a variety of musical selections from St. John’s musical groups.
  • Christmas Eve Traditional Service >>
Our traditional Christmas Eve service. All people, including children and families, are encouraged to join us for worship.

We celebrate Advent throughout December in anticipation of Christmas.

Who We Are

St. John’s is a neighborhood Lutheran Church located in Rockville, Maryland. We belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We are here to support our community and welcome believers, doubters and seekers of faith. We welcome people of all religious denominations, races, genders, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions to be part of our congregation.

Worship and Discipleship

St. John’s offers weekly worship services and bible study opportunities to help explore your faith.

Education and Activities for Children

Children are an integral part of our community. St. John’s Youth Ministry provides various opportunities for our children to learn and grow. These experiences range from kid-friendly worship services, Sunday School, Preschool, and Vacation Bible School. We also provide a staffed nursery during worship services for children under the age of 5.

Service and Outreach to help the Community

St. John’s works year-round in service activities to feed the hungry, help the elderly and provide meeting space for community groups.
