In August 2020, Thomas Hochla joined St. John’s as minister of music where he enjoys making music that serves and strengthens the community.
Originally from Oklahoma, Thomas finished his undergraduate in Music in New York and moved to Maryland for graduate school at Peabody. Throughout his education, he was deeply involved in campus ministry and sacred music. Most recently, he served as Music Associate at the Catholic Community of Saint Francis Xavier and as Director of Music at the Baltimore Basilica. However, his first position in church music was as Choir Director at First Evangelical Lutheran in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Making music that serves and strengthens the community is what gets me up in the morning. Working each week at St. John’s, I look forward to (eventually) meeting all of you in person and immediately helping to make worship meaningful.
Outside of church, Thomas teaches private piano and voice lessons as well as audition workshops. He is also an avid performer on the stage and in the pit, and is a certified Yoga Instructor.
