Youth & Family
St. John’s Youth and Family ministry is focused on teaching the bible story to children and youth, as well as supporting families to nurture faith at home. St. John’s offers a variety of opportunities for children, youth, and families including:
St. John’s encourages families to worship together. Each week, Pastor Kern provides a children’s sermon as well as invites children of all ages to participate in communion.
St. John’s provides a staffed nursery from 9:45am to 11:15am on Sunday mornings. Our nursery attendants love children, and are background checked. The nursery is intended for children under the age of 5 during worship. School age children are encouraged to worship with their families. Quiet activity bags are also available for children in worship.
There is also a separate quieting room available for feeding infants.

Sunday School for all ages occurs Sundays from 11:15 am to 12:15pm.
Vacation Bible School is offered each summer, and consists of a week-long program of religious education employing Bible stories, religious song, arts & crafts and skits. VBS is aimed for elementary school-aged children.

St. John’s Confirmation program teaches middle school students about the promises that God has made to them and how they can depend on those promises during your lives. The course study consists of a variety of studies, including scripture, Baptism, Communion, and the teachings of Martin Luther.
St. John’s has a youth group consisting of middle school and high school kids. This summer, June 27th – July 1st, they will be traveling to the ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston, TX.
The ELCA Youth Gathering is an event every three years, where 30,000 high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation.
Children & Youth Music
St. John’s offers both a youth & children’s chorus, as well as children’s handchimes. The chorus is for young people K-12. They learn a variety of choral music including African-American Spirituals, hymn arrangements, classical pieces and children’s songs. The children’s handchimes is for kids of all ages. This handchime group provides music for the morning services about once a month.
St. John’s Christian Preschool is a non-profit organization and an outreach of St. John’s Lutheran Church. The preschool offers programs for 2, 3, and 4 year olds and was established for the purpose of promoting the mental, physical, emotional, social and spiritual growth of children. The professional staff supervises and guides the children through a program of play and instruction with a daily emphasis on Christian attitudes. Visit our website for more information >>
